Overview And About Me

We are in the midst of one of the weirdest times in human history and living in what will be remembered as one of, if not the, most unprecedented times of our lifetimes. It all started in mid-March, as my girlfriend and I were prepping for our mini-vacation in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., for spring break. However, we didn’t realize how different our worlds would be when we returned from Florida, let alone when we hit the road for vacation.

The COVID-19 pandemic, better known as Coronavirus, has shifted our sports world into a virtual standstill and our everybody lives into a virtual perspective.

My name is Alex Strouf. I am a 21-year-old college junior at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, studying Communication with a Media Studies emphasis. I’ve been working in sports media for eight years now, shifting from the world of news writing and long-form journalism to broadcast, radio, and TV content, with a focus on sports reporting, commentary, and play-by-play. My main job is as the Station Manager of WWSP-90FM, UW-Stevens Point’s student-run radio station. It’s the largest student-run radio station in the Midwest, serving alternative programming to a 60-mile wide audience. On the part-time side of things, I serve as the main play-by-play voice for UW-Stevens Point football, men’s and women’s basketball, and baseball, as well as the Green Bay Blizzard of the Indoor Football League. I was set to head to Rochester, Minn. for the summer for an internship serving as the pregame host, FOX Sports Wisconsin & Fox Sports North reporter for the league, and a lead producer, but in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, that was nixed. To recap: I lost a baseball season, an indoor football season, an internship, and half of 90FM’s volunteer disc jockeys. Just like each of you, this has hit my life hard, too. Luckily, as of publishing, nobody I know has been diagnosed with this infectious virus. Regardless, this has shaken our everyday lives to the core and adjustments have been rather dramatic.

Within this multimedia journey, we will recap how we got here, have informing conversations about the current state of life during the pandemic and our ‘quarantine,’ and so on. Most of the material will be in audio form which is accompanied by other written media. Enjoy accordingly, whether that be with tequila, wine, or water.

These last few months have been unbelievably weird. Cabin fever was unbelievably present, social distancing sucked, and some people even went batshit crazy.

The Table of Contents listed above will take you to the different sections of this project. Enjoy.
